About Us

RELIVE THE EVENTS OF YESTERYEAR IN SPRING GROVE AND THE SURROUNDING AREA by visiting our Society’s free museum on North Pine Avenue.  The Spring Grove “area” encompasses the boroughs of Jefferson, Seven Valleys, Spring Grove and York New Salem, as well as the townships of Heidelberg, Jackson, North Codorus and Paradise.

Main Street - Spring Grove, PA

Colorful and neatly arranged exhibits chronicle the lifestyles of our grandparents and great-grandparents from the 18th century to present day.  Our museum features:

Exciting Memorabilia
Antique Furniture, Toys and Tools
Ladies’ and Men’s Apparel From the 19th and Early 20th Centuries
A Unique Collection of Local Photographs
Local Historical and Genealogy records

Our museum presents the best of our area’s culture, heritage, and achievement.  We are open every Thursday morning from 8:30 to 11:30, and the second and fourth Sundays in the month from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. (except holidays.)

The museum is located in the Spring Grove Area Community Center with its main entrance (handicap accessible) off the parking lot on North Pine Avenue which runs parallel between North Main and North East Streets.

The society’s museum has enjoyed an auspicious beginning and an equally impressive growth since it first opened its doors in 1997.  Leadership, both past and present, supported by a group of dedicated volunteers over the years has significantly contributed to our organization’s growth to more than 500 members. The museum now houses more than 9,000 artifacts and memorabilia.  This success must also be attributed in part to the support and generosity of not only our members, but also the Spring Grove area community-at-large.

Grandfather Clock - Spring Grove, PAThe museum is composed of three large exhibition rooms comprising 3,000 square feet.  The entrance room, our “School Room,” focuses on the area’s public school system and includes, among many items, a large collection of photographs of the district’s now extinct one-room schools, as well as graduating classes from Spring Grove Public School from as far back as the beginning of the 20th century.  The main exhibition room, known as our “Community Room,” is devoted to the area’s industrial, commercial, religious and civic organizations and our local military, while the third room, our “Heritage Room” displays vintage furniture, household items, clothing apparel, and works of local artists. New to our venue is The Museum Store.  Here one can purchase the Society’s latest historic models, certain books, prints, and a variety of “yard sale items.”

The folks at the museum are tremendously proud of all that has been accomplished over the last 15 years, both in terms of 1) all that which has been entrusted to our keeping; and 2) the manner in which we have treated and displayed those historical contributions.

There is something for all ages.  Call (717) 225-0732 to arrange for private or special group tours.  We are eager to share our collection with you.
